Laser Cutting
Laser-Cut Model Parts for Architects, Designers, and Small-Scale Manufacturers
The CNC (computer numerically controlled) laser enables Studio Associates of New York to create
accurate model parts, at any scale, using a client's existing CAD database. Studio's staff can also create
the necessary CAD files from your drawings or sketches. Drawings can be emailed, scanned, digitized, or
created from scratch for the model.
Paper, wood or plastic sheets (up to 36" x 48") can be cut and scored to produce model parts that add
a high level of detail and finish to your in-house projects. We can also accommodate short production
runs of parts (up to 500 units) for small-scale manufacturing.
We will be glad to discuss your particular model requirements and suggest ways in which laser cutting can be effectively applied.

Laser Cutting Protocol
Protocol for preparation of drawings for laser cutting:
Autocad V.14 through Autocad V.2004 produce the best results. DXF files from other CAD software packages can
be imported.
The laser can cut plastic up to .250" thick, thin paper, board or wood, up to .0625" thick.
Maximum sheet size is 36" x 48".
Create layer structure:
- Cyan = Outer Cut
- Red = Inner Cut
- Yellow = Score
- Grey = Text

- Wherever possible use closed 2D polylines.
- Draw parts in scale (1 = 1") or provide scaling information.
- No blocks, splines and regions.
- Avoid lines on top of lines.
- All X-referenced information should be purged.
- No 3D or non-UCS entities.
- Please avoid using the terms "model" or "laser" in naming your drawings.
